Ellen teaches Stella how to talk to her doctor

Dick helps Sadako with her pronunciation

Introduction
We currently are privileged to work with 15 devoted volunteers from all over the North Shore of Boston. These volunteers include business people, doctors, retired people, college students, and disabled people. They give their time to help adults who do not speak English as their first language. As a result of this generous gift of the tutor’s time, our students are able to focus on a particular area in which they need help. This extra help may allow them to read with their children, make a doctor’s appointment, find a better job, or enter college-level classes. If this type of opportunity sounds interesting to you, please read the description below for more details.

Opportunity Description
We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers for one-on-one tutoring with adult ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students. Depending on student needs, tutors may work on basic conversation, reading, writing, etc. Tutors will meet with students 1 hour per week, usually in a public space. Most students live in Peabody, Salem, Danvers, or Beverly. No special skills are required. Teacher support and educational materials are available. For more information, fill out the form below or call Barbara at 978-532-8620 x204.
