Mission Statement

Our mission is to help adult ESOL students – regardless of race, religion, or nationality – improve their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing ability so they will become self-reliant members of their communities.

Program Goals

Our program’s goals are directly tied to our students’ goals. We help our students by listening to their needs in one-on-one student/counselor interviews, and then working with them to help them progress toward their stated goals. We help them become more independent residents of their communities by:

  1. using oral and written MA Dept. of Education tools
  2. offering one-on-one counseling time
  3. using carefully chosen books and educational materials which help teachers use Frameworks guidelines
  4. providing frequent inter-cultural opportunities for students to network and socialize every week
  5. taking students from all levels on periodic educational field trips (museums, historical sites, musical performances or seasonal activities)
  6. introducing all students to area services and agencies
  7. connecting them with other NSCAP services as needed

Workplace Education
NSCAP, in conjunction with Brooksby Village, recently received a 5-year grant from the MA DOE. Two instructors will teach ESOL and ASE (pre-GED) to employees of Brooksby Village on-site (Photos). If you work at Brooksby Village and would like to attend either class, please contact Regina Currid in the Human Resources Department.

Testimonials
"In January 2003, I attended the NSCAP English program. Jessica, Helen, and Marie are my English teachers. In the beginning, I was a level one student. Jessica was my first teacher. She taught us speaking, writing, and some grammar. She also taught us how to use the computer. After a half year, I was a level two student at NSCAP. Helen was my second teacher. She taught us many grammar, conversation, and writing. Now I am a level three student. Marie is my third teacher. She teaches us more grammar, reading, and writing than before. Right now, my English is improving, and I have learned more computer program than before. I want to thank my three teachers for their hard work. Now I have a part-time job at Walgreens. I am very grateful to Karin, Director of Adult Basic Education at NSCAP, for her recommendation. "   -Junjie (Advanced ESOL Student)

" The English program helps my life a lot because I learn English language, and learn on the computer. I have satisfaction that I meet people in my class. I can buy food, watch the TV and work. I'm very happy because alone I write my Email on the computer. I can do a lot in the USA ."     -Olga (Beginner ESOL Student)

"At NSCAP, I have the opportunity to talk with my classmates, who have the same purpose on which we hope the improvement of our English. Among them, I don’t feel isolated. I am able to enjoy studying English in my class more than doing it at home alone."     - Yumiko (Advanced ESOL Student)

" The English program is very important for me, because I can learn and ask about my doubts. Each day I learn more, now I can watch TV, speak with people, and go shopping alone. I feel safer. The program covers many things. We learn about computers, about states of USA , about interesting places, and to learn how do write and to read correctly. The NSCAP ESOL program has an excellent organization. "
  - Rose (Beginner ESOL Student)
