Tuesday and Thursday
9:30 am to 11:30 am
The primary goal of the students in Group 1 is to improve their English oral communication skills at work, at home, and out in the community. The students are from the Dominican Republic and Honduras. They study about immigrants from other countries who move to different states around the United States. Comparisons are made about different native cultures and those of the United States. They also study vocabulary words necessary to improve their job performance, work ethics, safety, and other workplace related topics. Everyday the class creates an accurate weather report and records it in their personal writing journals. This winter we learned the words snow, snowy and snowing !!!!!
One of the students in this class was recently selected as the Brooksby Village Employee of the Year. He and his wife went to the Erickson corporate offices in Baltimore to be recognized for this award.
The class is very fortunate to have several dedicated BBV residents that volunteer their time to help in the classroom.

Wednesday and Friday
9:30-11:30
The students in the class are from the Dominican Republic and Brazil. Two of the students recently became Citizens of the United States and the students, teachers and members of Brooksby Village community are very proud of them.
The primary goals of the students are to improve oral and written communication skills at work, at home, and out in the community. In class the students study work related vocabulary and safety rules. Soon many of the students will be preparing for a certification exam. They also write in writing journals and the teacher writes back to them. Through this process students and teacher get to know each other on several different levels.
Since February the class has been spending one class per week in the computer lab in Towne Center. They are learning the basics of using a computer and utilizing web sites that provide practice in reading, grammar drills, geography, and map skills. They recently wrote autobiographies using a word document, editing, and saving them on their individual floppy disks.

Our advanced students have more control of basic grammar than our intermediate students, and can function independently to meet most everyday life needs. In the computer lab, students write resumes, send emails, and work with the digital camera and scanner. Upon completion, advanced students can handle jobs that involve common oral and written instructions, and can converse on many everyday topics.
